New rules for mountain guide activities in the territory of the Slovak Republic.
By adopting the amendment to Act No. 544/2002 Z.z. on the Mountain Rescue Service, new rules were added to the existing obligations for mountain guides.
From 1. By January 1, 2026, every mountain guide must be insured for liability for damage that could arise when providing mountain guiding activities, with a minimum insurance limit of 1,000,000 EUR. At the same time, a mountain guide must comply with the instructions governing safety requirements when performing mountain guiding activities and act with professional care when performing guiding activities, and these rules are regulated in the Mountain Guide Code of Ethics. All these documents are published in NAHVSR public documents.
All conditions are regulated in Act No. 544/2002 Z.z. on the Mountain Rescue Service.
Conditions for foreign mountain guides are also changing. From January 1, 2026, the recognition of professional qualifications obtained abroad will be carried out against payment of necessary costs. Also, from July 1, 2026, mountain guides from abroad will have to be either members of the NAHVSR or registered with the NAHVSR due to disciplinary liability for the performance of this profession in the territory of the Slovak Republic.
We believe that these measures will increase the safety and quality of mountain guide services in the Slovak mountains.
